Léa is spending her vacation by the sea with her grandmother. In the morning, they go together to the village fish market.
At the harbour, the fishing boats come back in with the tide. An old man is repairing his fishing rod on a bench.
At the market, they meet a fisherman. He sells fresh fish, caught that very morning. Léa likes talking with him.
The fisherman explains that he goes fishing every morning, very early. On his stall there are lots of fish.
The fisherman shows his salmon and his tuna. He also has cod and a very fresh trout. "Everything is very fresh," he says with a smile.
On the table, Léa also sees sea bass, sole, and mackerel. There are small sardines and herring next to them. Finally, she notices a beautiful sea bream.
Her grandmother prefers seafood. She looks at the big pink prawns and a lobster that is still moving a little. "It's alive!" says Léa, surprised.
Next to the lobster, there is a crab and lots of black mussels. Her grandmother also buys oysters and scallops for dinner.
Her grandmother also takes some langoustines and a few anchovies. There is even a big skate, but it's too expensive.
Léa looks at a squid and an octopus in a bucket. She finds it a bit strange, but she wants to try it. Her grandmother chooses a small squid for cooking.
The fisherman explains a simple difference. "Fresh fish smells nice like the sea. Frozen fish is convenient, but not as good," he says.
Next door, at the fishmonger's, Léa asks for a cod fillet with no bones. The fishmonger also removes the scales from a sea bream with a knife.
They buy all the seafood and go back home. In the evening, her grandmother makes a big meal with all the fresh fish.
Léa and her grandmother eat together near the sea. The meal is delicious, and Léa thinks about the good fisherman who sold this beautiful fresh fish.
