How to ask what something costs, and how to answer.
Asking the Price
- Ça coûte combien ? / C'est combien ?: Ça coûte combien, ce livre ? — How much does this book cost?
- Combien coûte(nt) + noun: Combien coûtent les pommes ? — How much do the apples cost?
- Je voudrais...: Je voudrais un kilo de pommes, s'il vous plaît. — I would like a kilo of apples, please.
Giving the Price
- Ça coûte / C'est + price: Ça coûte dix euros. — It costs ten euros.
- Ça fait + total: Ça fait vingt euros, s'il vous plaît. — That'll be twenty euros, please.
- euro(s) / centime(s): C'est neuf euros quatre-vingt-dix. — It's nine ninety (€9.90).
- gratuit / cher / pas cher: C'est trop cher ! — That's too expensive!
